Fair Housing Seminar

Location: Mesquite
Date: Wed, May 25
Time: 9:15 AM - 10:45 AM

Recently, important fair housing decisions have impacted the debate over the balance between using affordable housing development to revitalize disinvested neighborhoods and moving low-income families to “high opportunity areas.” The Supreme Court ruled in a case on the Fair Housing Act and the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) issued a final rule on Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing. These are complex issues and are often interpreted differently from various perspectives. Mercedes Marquez, former Assistant Secretary of HUD and former Deputy Mayor of Los Angeles, will lead a seminar that dissects the recent fair housing decisions and how they relate to the communities we serve.
