Estella Gonzalez, the Manager of Economic Opportunity at NCI, earned her B.A. at the University of Houston, with a major in in Political Science and minor in Mexican American Studies. Her passion for service and dedication to the Latino community led her to a career in the public sector. After working in both federal and state government, Estella entered the non-profit sector to develop and offer local solutions to combat some of the most difficult challenges faced by low-income communities. In her nearly ten years of non-profit work, Estella has occupied various roles – from administrative support, fundraising, and grant writing to direct client work, program development, and management positions. In 2013, Estella was accepted into the NALCAB Colegio Fellowship – a nine-month leadership development program aiming to connect up-and-coming Latino leaders in the asset-building field to peer learning opportunities and strategies for personal and professional development. Through this fellowship, Estella was able to develop and implement a small business development program to serve low-income and underserved entrepreneurs in the greater Houston area.
