Gricelda Montes is currently the Asset Building Programs Coordinator at El Centro de la Raza. Gricelda oversees the Financial Empowerment Program, Homebuyer Program and the Business Opportunity Center. She assists aspiring entrepreneurs who qualify to rent a micro-retail vendor cart located in El Centro's outdoor plaza, or space in the 3,200 square feet of indoor commercial retail space. El Centro de la Raza is a voice and a hub for Seattle and Martin Luther King Jr. County’s Latino community as it advocates on behalf of the people and work to achieve social justice.
Gricelda's financial empowerment related work started in 2011 when she was working at a large financial institution. She is passionate about working with the Latino community and therefore started working at El Centro de la Raza. She began working at El Centro as a financial Counselor where she worked with participants on a one-on-one basis to deliver financial management, budget, and credit counseling tailored to each participant’s unique circumstance.
Gricelda was the first in her family to graduate from high school and then to pursue higher education. She graduated from the University of Washington with a Bachelor’s degree in 2014 where she majored in American Ethic Studies with a concentration in Chicano Studies because she is committed to working for the Latino community and strive to empower them.
